History Of Temple Israel
In 1954, a group of young visionaries came together to create Temple Israel. They wanted a new kind of congregation. There already existed an established, successful Conservative congregation in Orlando, Yet, the founders longed for something different. They sought a congregation that was rooted in Jewish tradition but was also progressive in outlook. They wanted a synagogue that combined tradition with change, a reverence for the past yet inventiveness for the future. The creation of Temple Israel was a dream, that through hard work, struggle, and long hours, became a vibrant reality. In that process, many individuals and families gave their time and love, as our members continue to do to this day.
